William Charles Smith Jr., beloved husband of Mrs. Clara Sloan Smith, passed away in Cardston on Wednesday, February 26th, 1975, at the age of 90 years, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Kaysville, Utah on May 24th, 1884, son of William Charles Smith Sr. and Mary Eleanor Smith Smith. He received his early education in Utah and then in 1900 he and his brother John drove 800 head of cattle to Canada, settling in the Mountain View area. On June 9th, 1909, he was married to Clara Sloan in the Logan Temple and then they took up residence at Hill Spring where they resided until 1967 when they moved into the Chinook Foundation in Cardston. He was an active member of the L.D.S. Church. Besides his loving wife Clara, he is survived by ten children, Hugh Charles of Los Angeles, Calif., Lavont Sloan of Victorville, Calif., Ellen Bunting of Bakersfield, Calif., Harold Reid of Liberty, Miss., William Paul of Tarzana, Calif., Richard West of Hill Spring, Margaret Woolford of Cardston, John Terrence of Raymond, Alexander Keith of Cody, Wyoming, and Ruth Gifford of Los Angeles, Calif.; 33 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Sivil of Cardston and Thomas Archie of Hill Spring and one sister, Jane Payne of Mountain View. He was predeceased by one son, Wallace. Funeral services will be held in the Cardston Stake Chapel on Monday, March 3rd, at 1:00 P.M. Bishop Bryce Cahoon officiating.
