Stephen Bassett Covert.
After a prolonged and painful illness of several months, a former resident of Ithaca, Stephen B. Covert died, at his residence at Sheldrake, Seneca County on Monday November 30.
He was born at Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1820 and became a citizen of Ithaca about 1841, where for 20 years he was an extensive manufacturer of cigars. He afterwards removed to Buffalo where he carried on the same business for several years. In 1876 he purchased a fruit farm at Sheldrake, where he has resided since. He was the oldest son of the late deacon George P. Covert of Ithaca. His remains were brought to Ithaca for burial in the city cemetery on Thursday.
