---John C. Carpenter, aged sixty-nine years and one day, died at his farm home northeast of La Plata last Thursday night, having been in failing health since last September, but his condition was not thought to be serious until a few days before his death.
---Mr. Carpenter was a life-long resident of this community, a very prominent and well-to-do farmer and he had a large circle of friends who will mourn his passing.
---He is survived by his wife, one son, Wilbur Carpenter of this community, two daughters, Mrs. H.L. Shepherd of Des Moines, Iowa and Mrs. W.E. Hertzler of near Edina; one brother, James N. Carpenter of Los Angeles, California, four brothers and one sister having preceded him.
---Funeral services were held at the La Plata Baptist Church Saturday at 1:30, conducted by Rev. George Edwards of Macon. Interment was made in the La Plata cemetery.
