Mr. Groppe was born June 5, 1919, in New Haven, the son of Adolph Groppe and wife Emma, nee Schroeder.
He was united in marriage to Hazel Von Behren on Feb. 28, 1942, in Hermann.
Mr. Groppe was united in marriage to Marie Hahne on Aug. 28, 2004.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, New Haven.
Mr. Groppe worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Missouri Department of Transportation for more than 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; his second wife on April 1, 2007; one son, Dennis Groppe; and one sister, Olga Pelster.
He is survived by five sons, Wayne Groppe and wife Joyce and Donald Groppe and wife Barbara, all of Hermann, Wilbert Groppe and wife Faye, New Haven, Dale Groppe, Berger, and Darrell Groppe and wife Wendy, Labadie; three daughters, Elaine Oberg and husband Forrest, Kansas City, Judy Schnaath and husband Vernon and Doreen Mitchell and friend Dennis Hart, all of Hermann; one brother, Alvin Groppe, Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Esther Pierce, St. Charles; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Haven, with the Rev. Herman Otten officiating.
Burial was in New Haven Cemetery, New Haven.
