Gladys Viola Sorensen, the daughter of Mads C. Andersen and Christie M. (Petersen) Andersen, was born on April 21, 1909 at Rural Nelson, NE. She passed away on August 12, 2003 at Homestead Manor in Lincoln, NE at the age of 94 years, 3 months and 21 days.

Gladys graduated from Hardy High School in 1927. She furthered her education at the University of Southern California and State College in Education, Greeley, CO; earning her AB Degree at Peru State College in 1936, her Master's Degree from the University of Nebraska. Lincoln in 1958 and her Media Endorsement also from UNL in 1971.

Gladys was united in marriage to William H. Sorensen in 1958.

She was an eductor/administrator from 1927-1958, teaching in 10 different schools in Nebraska. She later was a realtor in Lincoln, Nebraska from 1973-1978.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband William, January, 1973; two sisters, Beulah Andersen and Erma Miller, and one nephew Ron Miller.

Survivors include her nephew Randy Miller; great-nephew, BJ Miller; great-niece, Megan Miller, cousins and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held, August 15, 2003 from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, NE with Pastor Daryl Nelson officiating.

Pallbearers were Marvin Montey, Brad Remus, Steve Bartling, Stan Meyer, Tom Worster, and Ken Hesser.

Memorials to the University of NE Teachers College.

Interment was in the Spring Creek Cemetery at Ruskin, NE.

Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, NE in charge of arrangements.

Former area resident Gladys V. (Andersen) Sorensen, 94, of Lincoln died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at Homestead Manor in Lincoln.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior with the Rev. Daryl Nelson officiating.

Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery at Ruskin. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sorensen was born April 21, 1909, to Mads and Christie (Petersen) Andersen in rural Nelson. She graduated from Hardy High School in 1927 and
attended the University of Southern California and State College of Education in Greeley, Colo.

She was an elementary teacher and principal in
Cadams from 1927-35. She graduated from Peru State
College in Peru in 1936. She was an elementary teacher in Kimball from 1936-38; and principal in Sidney from 1938-43, at Jefferson School in Grand Island from 1943-45 and at Platte School in Grand Island
from 1946-47. She also was superintendent of schools in Nuckolls County from 1948-50; teacher at Barr High School in Grand Island from 1950-53; supervisor at Peru State College in 1952; supervisor in Columbus from 1956-58.

In 1958, she married William H. Sorensen and earned her master's degree from the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln. She received her media
endorsement from UNL in 1971. She was a teacher and principal in Lincoln from 1953-72. She was a real estate agent in Lincoln from 1973-78. Her husband died in January 1973.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in
Hardy and National Education Association. She was past president of Nebraska State Education Association, Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Danish Sisterhood of America, Delta Kappa Gamma Society and Kappa Delta Pi. She was in the Who's Who in Nebraska yearbook.

She was preceded in death by two sisters.
