Deette (pronounced Dee Ette) was the daughter of Jess Lee & Catharine Virginia "Jennie" Murray Linn. The family moved from Iowa to Mitchell County, Kansas about 1879 and then back to Iowa about 1890. She worked in the field herding sheep until age 14. When her mother died, her dad put her in charge of the house. She had to learn housekeeping and cooking in a hurry. She became an excellent housekeeper.
On 13 Feb 1895 at the home of her parents in Lucas County, Iowa, she married Clarence Herring and they lived on a farm East of Derby known as the Ike Taylor Farm. In 1897 they moved to Julesburg, Colorado and back to Derby, Iowa in 1905. In 1908, they moved to Greybull, Wyoming where Clarence worked on her father's sheep ranch.
Children: Robert Lee, Mary Jane, John Philip (born 1905 in Julesburg, Sedgwick,CO and died 1906 at age 13 months), and Linn.
Clarence died in 1914 and she then 2nd married Alvin SELLS 31 Jan 1918 in Basin, Big Horn, WY and was divorced Dec 1922 same place. She 3rd married John EMERY.
