Lotus "Ev" Allamand, 60, of 3000 Tamarack Lane, Marion, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at his home, after a courageous battle with a chordoma tumor. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Marion, by the Rev. Gregory R. Williamson. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, and one hour before services Thursday at the church. Military Honors will be conducted. Burial: Holy Cross Cemetery, Anamosa, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Larry and Lenny; sisters, Donna, Pamela and Pauline; and brothers-in-law, Danny and Patrick.
Lotus Everett was born Feb. 5, 1949, the son of Lawrence and Erma (Joslin) Allamand, in Anamosa, Iowa. Ev was employed at Iowa Fire Protection for 35 years, retiring in 2008. He served in the Air Force as a heavy equipment instructor.
Ev was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marion, Road Sprinkler Fitters Local Union No. 669, and the Marion American Legion Post No. 298. Ev was also a licensed plumber and skilled craftsman. He was an award winning wrestler in high school and while serving in the Air Force, won the Air Force National Wrestling Tournament. Ev was an avid dancer, singer, loved the outdoors, enjoyed fishing and playing cards. One of Ev's greatest passions was his barn, which he truly enjoyed restoring.
