Mary Elizabeth Allamand was born Jan. 29, 1943, at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was the daughter of Lawrence and Erma Joslin Allamand. Mary graduated from the Anamosa Community Schools in 1961. Mary Allamand married Merlin Husmann on Feb. 4, 1961, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church.
Mary was known as the Cake Lady, making cakes for every occasion for over 50 years. She ran the bakery at Family Foods in Anamosa and Monticello. She also had worked as a police dispatcher at the Monticello Police Department. Since Merlin's death, Mary had been cooking at Whiskey River, helping her niece, Karen. Mary was very creative. She belonged to the Paint and Palette Club in Anamosa and did ceramics in Amber. She loved to grow flowers and garden as well.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Merlin; and six siblings, Polly, Pamalea, Leny, Larry, Donna and Everett.
