Alice Merina Coston Cooper, 89, died Aug 20, 2001 of heart failure at Redlands Community Hospital in Redlands, CA.

Alice was born February 25, 1912 in Lamar County TX to Henry L. and Willie Cannady Coston.
She was the middle child of 11. Of the 9 that survived infancy, she was the last to pass.

On December 16, 1930, during her senior year in high school, she married Ben Cooper in Soper, OK.
In 1942 she went on a job interview with a friend and was hired to work for the Naval Ammunition Depot in McAlester, OK as an Inventory Clerk. She thanked LBJ with every Social Security Check she ever received. When the war ended, she worked for the JC Penney Co in McAlester, Fort Worth and San Bernardino, CA. She retired from there in 1972 after 24½ years. "Retired" never described Alice.
She loved to travel-- be it the Holy Land or Vegas casinos--working on the election board or snack-bar at the Riverside raceway--her sister's truck stop Paris TX or her son's motel in Colorado--making quilts for the family or yard work--and her favorite jobs, Jury Duty & Baby-sitting.

She lived by two codes that her parents taught her and she passed on to anyone that would listen to her:
Live each day that if it is the day the Lord calls you home--you won't be too ashamed to face him.
A plaque on her wall read:
For when the Great scorer comes to mark against your name- He will write not that you won or lost but how you played the game.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Firestone and son-in-law, Morris, of Yucaipa, CA; one daughter-in-law, O'Leta Cooper of Kimberling City, MO; four grandchildren, Michael Cooper, Deana Lisiewski, Joey Collison and Kirt Firestone; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ben, in 1956 and son, David, in 1998.

Graveside services were held Aug 24 at Evergreen Cemetery in Paris TX with Bright-Holland in charge of arrangements.
A celebration of her life luncheon was held Sept 15 at The Colony in Calimesa, CA

Grand-daughter of Levi E Coston
and Lucretia King Perkins & W J Jack Cannady and Josephine Sharp.
She had two children: David Lee Cooper and Barbara Anita Cooper.
