Former Policeman Ben Cooper Dies In City Hospital
Former McAlester Police Chief, Ben Cooper, 50 died at a local hospital Wednesday following a short illness.
Cooper was born in McAlester April 3, 1906 and had lived here all his life.
He worked for both the state and county highway departments, served as night chief on the McAlester police force and then was employed by the McAlester Street department.
Survivors include his wife, Alice, his mother, Mrs. Sophia Cooper, McAlester, one son, David and a daughter, Barbara, McAlester; two brothers, Robert Cooper, Stillwater and William P. Cooper, San Raphal, Calif.; three sisters, Miss Celeste Cooper, McAlester, Mrs.Agnes Martindale, Maywood, Calif., Mrs. Bertha Lunday, Tulsa; and one grandson, Michael Cooper.
Rosary will be recited tonight at 8 p.m. in the Humphrey chapel with Rev. F.F.Meis in charge.
Burial will follow in Oak Hill cemetery. Pallbearers will be Durcie Freeman, Pete Jeffers, Bill Hopkins, Sonny Ragan, Joe Kaiser and Chris LeFlore.
