Lee E. Cox, age 88, of Amboy, died Monday, January 4, 2010, at Parker Oaks in Winnebago. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM, at the United Methodist Church in Amboy, with Rev. Jean Sidner officiating. Burial will be in Sterling Cemetery, Amboy. Visitation time will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, on Friday, January 8, 2010 at Spencer-Owen Funeral Home, Winnebago and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Lee was born April 21, 1921, at Mapleton, the son of Walter and Lydia (Annis) Cox. He was raised in the Sterling area and attended the Ridge and Sterling schools and Amboy High School. Lee married Marian Elaine Scramlin on July 11, 1943 in Amboy. He served in the Army during WWII in both Europe and occupied Japan. They then farmed south of Amboy until moving into Amboy in 1992. In 1971, Lee was involved in planting and harvesting seed corn in Kauai, Hawaii. Lee and Marian enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona; they also enjoyed attending the State Fair and worked at the Fair after retirement. Lee was well known for his beautiful woodworking and his gardening skills, especially his tomatoes. He also enjoyed golf, old cars and spending time with his granddaughters. He was a member of the Amboy Lions Club and American Legion and was on the Board of Directors of the Blue Earth County Service Company.

Lee is survived by his daughters, Linda Karow of Mankato; Nancy (Dan) Thomas of Waseca; sister, Betty Cox of Rochester; 3 granddaughters, Jennifer Thomas of Mankato; Kelly Karow of St. Michael; Sarah Thomas of Waseca; and several nieces and nephews. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marian in 2008 and two brothers, Stanley and Harold "Keith" Cox.
