Devere J. Brewster, 69, of Valparaiso and formerly of Culver and Tefft passed away Thursday, September 3, 1998 at his home. He was born December 14, 1928 in Porter County the son of Walter Lee and Zella Elva (Wright) Brewster, Graduated from Kankakee Twp. High School in Tefft, had worked for Smith-Nuppnau Concrete, then was a grain elevator operator for Jasper County Farm Bureau Co-op for 23 years until 1974 and then worked for Nickels Bakery 17 years retiring in 1993. On March 19, 1950 he married Eva Van Dusen who survives along with one son, Michael (Denise) Brewster of Bass Lake; four sisters, Opal Cowley of Gibson City, IL, Ovelia Obenchain of North Judson, Velda Fitzgerald of Louisville, KY, and Velma Grass of Valparaiso; one brother, Retus Brewster of Sault Ste. Marie, Canada; one step-brother, David Brooks of Allardt, IN; one grandson, Michael Lee Brewster; one step-grandson, Chris Ardris and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant children, David and Susan, one sister, Daisy Miller and an infant brother, Eddie. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home in Valparaiso, Ind., Rev. Steve Cunnington officiating. Burial at DeMotte Cemetery. Visitation on Monday 4 to 8 p.m.
