She was the wife of Woodrow W. Downes, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage.
Born in Morstein, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Elsie May Smith Greiner.
A lifelong resident of West Chester, she lived her entire married life in the home that her husband built and carefully maintained.
In 1955, she accepted Jesus Christ as her savior and later became an active church member. From 1973 to 1998 she was a member of the Bible Baptist Church of West Chester, where she was involved in soul-winning, choir and the Women's Missionary Fellowship. In 1998, she became a member of the Faith Community Baptist Church in West Bradford.
In addition to her husband, Helen is survived by a daughter, Beverly Woolfrey and husband, Fran of West Chester; five grandchildren, Kelly Woolfrey Fellows, Vikki Downes Stewart, Scott Downes, Nathaniel Woolfrey and Curtis Downes; and a brother, Martin L. Greiner and wife, Bernice, of Auburn, Wash.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Lyric; a son, W. Alan Downes; a brother, H. Wesley Greiner; and a sister, Elsie Mae Greiner.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the Faith Community Baptist Church, Shadyside Road and Glenside Drive in West Bradford Township, where family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Interment will be in Green Mount Cemetery, West Goshen.
