Joe Briscoe Funeral Held At Sheridan
Funeral services for Joe L. ("Brain") Briscoe, 77, were held Wednesday, Nov. 25, from First Baptist Church of Sheridan, with Rev. Steve Williams officiating. Burial was in Cheatham Cemetery.

Mr. Briscoe, brother of Jack Briscoe and Mrs. Leona Rypple of Weimar, was a carpenter and painter. He died at 2:30 a.m., Nov. 24 at Huth Memorial Hospital, Yoakum, after a lengthy illness.

Born March 18, 1904, at Sheridan, he was a son of Joe and Mattie (Gilcrease) Briscoe. He lived in Yoakum the past eight years.

He married Nora Lee Scott, who preceded him in death, as did two daughters, Jackie Delois and JoAnn, and one son, Erman Gail.

He is survived by: three daughters, Mrs. Doris Hooper of Rock Island, Mrs. Ramona Williams of Louisiana, Mrs. Vera Gent of Big Spring; two sons, Sammie Lee Briscoe of Houston and Jay L. (Nopie) Briscoe of Gonzales; three sisters, Mrs. Lou Rainey Holster of Yoakum, Mrs. Dorothy West of Sheridan and Mrs. Leona Rypple of Weimar; one brother, Jack Briscoe of Weimar; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and his faithful nurse and companion of many years Gussie Bortel of Yoakum.

Pallbearers were Ottie Botard, Jay Spiltler, I. W. Fuller, Norman Hooper, Emil Burger, and Max Rogers.
