Reuben Benton Barker enlisted with his brother Thomas J. Barker and a Barker cousin (believed to be son of W.O. Barker) in the 32nd Texas Cavalry. Was discharged in Aug 1862 after becoming seriously ill. Regained health and joined his father's unit in December of 1862, continuing past port Huston to serve in Military, summer of 1863.
