MRS. F.C. GANNETT KILLED IN AUTO ACCIDENT MAY 11
Car Plunges Over Grade on Hoopa Road Carrying Local Woman to her death.
Mrs. Fred C. Gannett, of this city, was instantly killed Wednesday evening in Humboldt county, about two miles from the town of Willows on the Hoopa road.
The car, which was occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Gannett, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Pratt and a woman whose name was not learned, was traveling on a one-way road, and Mr. Gannett, who was driving, attempted to avoid a head-on collision with another car, pulled out too far and the car plunged over a grade, rolling 75 feet to a creek bed below.
Mrs. Gannett died within a short time after the accident. Mrs. Pratt sustained a fractured leg, and the other lady sustained several broken ribs. The two men occupants of the car escaped with slight bruises and scratches. The body of the dead woman was brought here by Mr. Allen and Mr. Doherty, and is now lying in state at the L.R. Black Funeral Home.
Georgie Gannett was a native of Minnesota, having been born on May 25, 1885, and was 47 years of age at the time of her death. Besides her husband, Fred C. Gannett, she is survived by a number of brothers and sisters who reside in Minnesota.
Mr. and Mrs. Gannett were married in Alaska in the the year 1903, and moved to Crescent City several years ago. They have since made their home here, where both have been well and affectionately known. The passing of Mrs. Gannett comes as a shock to her many friends in this community.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
