Mrs. Anna Gjerde of Mentor passed away Friday, April 29, 1932, at ten o'clock in the forenoon, aged seventy-two years, ten months, and nine days. The cause of her death was heart trouble. She had been ailing for about two years.
Mrs. Gjerde was born July 8, 1859 in Goodhue county, her parents names being Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Overby. She was married to Peder Gjerde June 14, 1878, and in November, 1884, moved with her husband to Polk County, which has been her home county since that time.
Mrs. Gjerde leaves four daughters, two sons, four sisters and two brothers to mourn her departure. The children are Henry Gjerde, Staples; Melvin Gjerde, Mentor; Mrs, L. C. Fornshell, Macon, Mississippi; Miss Julia Gjerde, Los Angeles, California; Mrs. John Hogenson, Minneapolis; Mrs. Harry Miller, Miami Beach, Florida. The sisters and brothers are Mrs. Nicholas Westby, St. Paul; Mrs. Lena Hughart, Scranton, Iowa; Mrs. Ole Marum, McIntosh; Mrs. F. C. Gannett, Crescent City, California; Anfin Overby, Fertile; Joseph Overby, Grand Forks, N. D.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gjerde, who was a member of the Norwegian Lutheran Church, were held at two o'clock in the afternoon, Wednesday, May 4th, with interment at Pleasant Hill cemetery. Rev. G. W. Tolo conducted the service. A beautiful vocal solo was rendered by Mrs. J.B. Austinson. Pall bearers were Odd Eide, Ole Haugen, E. E. Webster, Erick Grinde, Fred Barholz, and J. A. Gregerson, all of Fertile.
