MRS. LENA HUGHART, FUNERAL HELD TUESDAY
Lena Overby, daughter of Andrew and Gertrude Overby, was born Sept. 28, 1870, in Red Wing, Minnesota and died April 15, 1945 in Jefferson, Ia. at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 17 days.

She was united in marriage with Arthur Hughart. They lived in Leeds, North Dakota for some years and then moved to Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Hughart lived in Fonda, Iowa for five years, where Mr. Hughart died in 1925. She returned to Scranton and purchased the home where she resided until last fall.

She was a member of the Methodist Church. For several years past failing health made it impossible for her to attend services.

The deceased is survived by two sisters, Mrs. O. Marum of McIntosh, Minn., Mrs. N. Westby of St. Paul, Minnesota, a brother, Joe Overby of Portland, Oregon, a niece, Mrs. Claire Urness of St. Paul, Minnesota and a number of other relatives. Mrs. Westby and daughter, Mrs. Urness attended the funeral service.

The funeral service was held in the Huffman Funeral Home Tuesday April 17 at 2:30. The pastor of the Methodist Church in Scranton conducted the service. He was assisted by Mrs. J.F. Thomas, pianist and Miss Lucille Rutan who sang, "Lead Kindly Light."

The casket bearers were George Oeker, O.L. Goodrich, Ernest Taylor, Charles Rutan, Leslie Fielding, LaVern Fielding. Burial was made in the Scranton cemetery.

Mrs. Lena Hughart, a resident of Scranton for the past twenty years, died Sunday at the Orchard Nursing home where she had spent the winter. Failing health did not permit Mrs. Hughart to live alone in her own home.


Bayard News of Bayard, Iowa, dated Thursday, 13 June, 1935: "Scranton News - Mrs. Lena Hughart returned Saturday to her home here, after a weeks visit at the home of her cousin Mrs. Ella Kern in Glidden."
