John A. Baker, 82, of 834 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown, died suddenly at 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Washington County Hospital. He was taken critically ill last Saturday and taken to the hospital that night. He was improving and was to have been discharged this Saturday. He was born at Antietam Junction, Waynesboro Route 3, the son of Abram L. and Barbara (King) Baker. His early life was lived in the Waynesboro vicinity. After his marriage to Sadie V. Moser, at Mont Alto, he moved to Chambersburg and was employed as a freight conductor by the Pennsylvania Railroad. In 1930 he was transferred to Hagerstown and had since resided there and was employed in the PRR yards. He had been in PRR employment for 47 years and retired for the last 17 years.
Surviving are his wife and a foster son, Everett Wishard, Tupelo, Miss. and a brother Elmer, Waynesboro.

Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
