Mr. and Mrs. Fred Everett, pioneer residents of this community, were "Guests of Honor" at a special reception in their honor Thursday evening, February 12, when they observed their 50th wedding anniversary at the Trinity Lutheran Church.
At eight o'clock a regular church service was held with the choir singing "Lord Hath Helped Me Hitherto" and "Sun of My Soul." Rev. W. F. Preuss chose for his text 1 Chronicles 16:8-11. He built his theme on "What Christian Spouses Should Do on the "Fiftieth Anniversary of Their Marriage." First of all they should give thanks unto the Lord and secondly, they should call upon His name continuously.
After the church services the honored couple and the guests went to the social room where a program was presented with Rev. Preuss acting as toastmaster. After a brief congratulatory talk he called upon Rev. E. J. Kallsen who gave a short talk. The choir sang "Seeing Amelia Home" and "In the Gloaming": Mrs. Milo Heckt read a poem, "Our Golden Anniversary": Mrs. Herman Krapf presented Mrs. Everett a beautiful plaque from the Aid: Wm. Krapf, a deacon of the church, presented the honored couple with a golden wedding wreath from the congregation and a purse of money. A gold-pearl trimmed brooch was given Mrs. Everett and a gold chain and knife to Mr. Everett from the children. They received many congratulatory cards and greetings and several other gifts. Mrs. Everett wore a corsage and Mr. Everett a boutonniere.
Bouquets of jonquils, gifts from the children: tall tapers in gold trimmed candelabra and a pretty three-tier wedding cake in gold and white graced the table at which the honorary couple was seated, with their immediate family. A two-course luncheon was served to about 300 guests.
The committee in charge of arrangements was Mrs. Ben Kallsen, chairman: Mrs. A.H. Reinhardt, Edgar Tower and Frank Everett.
