Mary Seminick Torsky, age 95, of Cedarville, Michigan died Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Cedar Cove in Cedarville.

The former Mary Seminick was born September 8, 1912 in Pierce, West Virginia to Wasil Seminick and Mary (Dano) Seminick. Mary's family moved to Muse, Pennsylvania in 1918.

She married John Torsky in Detroit, Michigan in 1930. They owned and operated a meat market at Gratiot Central Market (Eastern Market) until 1948 when they moved their family to Cedarville. They owned and operated Torsky's Resort from 1948 until 1987 when Mary sold the business. Mary was well known in the Les Cheneaux area both as a business woman and for her artistic talent decorating eggs in the Ukranian tradition. In 1998, one of her eggs was in the White House Easter display. She received the Michigan Heritage Award in 2000 for continuing the egg decorating tradition by teaching many area residents this art form. Mary was also an avid fisherman. Her baked goods were eaten in many homes on Snows Channel. She also enjoyed cake decorating, cooking, wine making, and crocheting. Busy as she was, she always made time for family, friends, and grandchildren. She will leave a lasting impression on many. Mary was baptized in the Eastern Orthodox Church but currently attended the First Union Church in Cedarville. She was a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary Law-White Post, Grace Forgrave Missionary Society, Eastern Star, Les Cheneaux Business Men's Association, Les Cheneaux Chamber of Commerce and Les Cheneaux Sportsman's Club.

Mary Torsky was survived by her daughter, Olga Dean of Spring, Texas; four sons, Nick (Barbara) Torsky of Mesick, Michigan, Michael (Terry) Torsky of Ada, Michigan, John (Dana) Torsky of Cedarville and George Torsky of Alpena, Michigan; fifteen grandchildren, Dusty Weichbrodt, Melody Brannen, Bruce Dean, Kate Dean, Leslie Johnson, Julie Krueger, Sam Dean, Cheryl Wyatt, Michelle Gaudeau, Lora Brown, Gretchen Storey, Allyson Torsky, Jessie Torsky, Andrew Torsky and Sarah Torsky and thirty-two great grandchildren. Also surviving were one sister, Helen Moscheck of Allen Park, Michigan.

Mary Torsky was preceded in death by her husband, John Torsky; her parents; and five siblings, John Seminick, Anna Iski, Nicholas Seminick, Michael Seminick and Andrew Seminick.
