JOSEPH A. CORNETT

Joseph Alexander Cornett, son of William and Polly Ann Cornett, was born April 24, 1854, in Watonger (Watauga) county, North Carolina, and departed this life Dec. 16, 1938, at his home in Centerville, Iowa, being at the time of his death 84 years of age.

He was married to Martha Reese in 1881 and to this union two daughters were born. She preceded him in death in 1884. He was then married to Rebecca Sluder in 1886 and to this union nine children were born, two of whom preceded him in death.

Mr. Cornett came to Derby, Ia., in 1887. He moved to Centerville in 1919. He had been ill eight years.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, Mrs. Rebecca Cornett; four sons, Eugene, Clarence, Kenneth and George, all of Centerville; three daughters, Mrs. John Pettis of Van Wert, Mrs. Arthur Miller of Humeston, Mrs. Leslie Grant of Mt. Sterling; fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill of Tennessee and Jerry of Tina, Mo.; also a host of friends.
