Obituary for Victoria Hopkins Elizabeth Griggs Hopkins

Victoria Elizabeth Griggs Hopkins, daughter of James S. and Emily Ann Dwiggins Griggs, was born near Bloomfield, on April 14, 1865. She was left an orphan at the age of ten years and was reared in the home of her step-father John P. Barham.

She was united in marriage with Jonas Hopkins on January 4, 1891, and to this union nine children were born, two sons; Anderson and Benjamin and one daughter; Winnie Leora having preceeded her in death.

She is survived by three sons, Otto, Reuben and Lewis Hopkins of
Bloomfield; three daughters, Mrs. Carrie Canady of Kinder, Mrs. Halla Robey and Mrs. Bessie Jarrell, Dexter; one step-son, Joe Hopkins of Bloomfield; sixteen grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren, and 19 step-grandchildren. She is survived by one niece and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband on May 10, 1929.

She professed faith in Christ at an early age and lived a consistant and inspirational Christian life until her death.

She passed peacefully away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carrie Canady at 10:20 A.M. Friday morning, February 3, l956, at the age of 90 years 9 months and 19 days.

The body was taken to the Watkins and Sons Chapel in Bloomfield until time of services. The services were held Sunday, February 5, 1956 at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Bloomfield, conducted by Rev. B.J. Cody, of Puxico officiating, and being assisted by Rev. John F. Lewis of Dexter.

Interment was in the West Antioch Cemetery near Bloomfield. Watkins and Sons Service.
