CARL DANNY CAPPS, 85 ROCKFORD -Carl Danny Capps, 85, of Rockford passed away Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, after a long illness. Born November 29, 1923 in Princeton, N.C. He was a U.S. Army medic in World War II with the 80th Infantry Division and was awarded the Purple Heart as the result of enemy action in Europe. Danny was sent to Rockford's Camp Grant Army base for medical training and returned after the war to make Rockford his home. Married Marjorie Shelton Larson in 1946, and they were married 47 years until her death in 1993. Worked in Rockford's machine tool and automotive industries, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Riverside Community Church. During his active years, he enjoyed golf, water skiing, fishing and hunting. In his later years, he liked travel, playing cards and bicycling with his son. Survivors include his very special friend, Beverly Real of Rockford; son, Timothy Capps of Rockford; daughters, Becky (Bengt) Berggren of Cherry Valley, Penny Spangler of Morrison; brothers, Joseph (Kathlene) and Roger Capps; sisters, Nellie Phillips and Elsie Baker, all of Princeton, N.C.; grandchildren, Erin (Molly) Berggren of Chicago; Britt Berggren of Cherry Valley, Todd Spangler of Memphis, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. Danny was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Capps; parents, Atlas Daniel and Viola Daughtry Capps; brothers, Charlie and Leroy Capps; and sisters, Lillie Casey, Jessie Mae Nichols and Linda Braswell. Special thanks to the people of Heartland Hospice and to Tamara Hobson of Compassionate Care Specialists. Private graveside service will be in Scandinavian Cemetery.
