Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend completed her earthly journey peacefully on Tuesday, December 22, 2009. She resided at 920 McKinley Way in St. George, Utah at the time of her death.

She was born July 2, 1921 to Ephraim and Phoebe Ann (Oaks) Swain.

She married her eternal companion, Reed Palmer Smithies, on her nineteenth birthday, July 2, 1940, and it was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Mom was a perfectionist in her sewing, crocheting, cooking, baking, and canning. Her house was always immaculate and she took great pride in having it ready to welcome friends and family. Mom and Dad were best friends and enjoyed traveling, rodeos and the PCRA Rodeo Finals. They lived in Kamas most of their lives and later on enjoyed the winters in their home in St. George, Utah.

She lived her life for her loved ones and we spent many wonderful times together. She was very proud, protective, and supportive of her children, sons-in-law, and grandchildren.

She was an active and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving happily as a teacher and later as president with the youth in the Mutual. Mom and Dad loved attending the temple for many years.

She is survived by her daughters LaWana (Vernal Jay) Smith, Bountiful; Donna (Thomas Bert) Davis, Kamas; and Denise (Brent Joseph) Neil, St. George; sister Mary Rushton, St. George; grandchildren Glen, Bret (Heidi), Dawn, Joe (Merilee) and Nick (Sophie); great-grandchildren Payton, Halle, Carson; Morgan, Melissa, Shaylee, Jackie, and Audrey. She also has a special love for many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her wonderful husband of sixty-five years, mother, father who died when Blanche was six months old, her in-laws Frank and Izetta Smithies, sisters: ElDoris Fitzgerald, Sylvia Cobbley, Myrtle Carter, Vida Swain, Elma Eskelson; brothers, Clinton, Ray, and Athel Swain.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Kamas Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Church on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.
Interment will be in the Marion Cemetery under the direction of Crandall Funeral Home, Kamas.
