Early Life: Athel was born September 26, 1919, in Park City, Utah, the son of Ephriam and Phebe Ann Oaks Swain.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: On March 22, 1944, he married Rhea Watkins in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was a lifetime resident of Heber Valley. He believed in hard work and was an example of a man of integrity. He worked as a painting contractor in Heber and later for Granite School District in Salt Lake City. Athel was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings in the Heber 4th Ward. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with his wife and family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was never happier than when surrounded by his family. Athel Wallace Swain passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 85.
Survived By: His wife, Rhea; his children: Barbara (Dale) Hicken, Ruth (Michiel) Knight, LuAnn (Mike) Styler, Kent; sisters: Mary, Elma and Blanche; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Preceded In Death By: His parents; his brothers: Clinton and Ray; and sisters: Sylvia, ElDoris and Myrtle.
