He was the son of Christian and Regina Rachel (Krebs) Diehl
in New Hanover, Pennsylvania. When the family moved to Springfield Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania the family name was chnged to Diehl.

When Johann and his brother Frederick moved to Ohio the name was changed again to Deal. Johann and Frederick brothers-John Henry Dale and Felix Dale stayed in Pennsylvania where they spent the rest of their lives.

Johann's children were David Deal,1793-1882 #31068266 who lived his entire life in Ohio and William Henry Deal, 1795-1874, #95271116 who moved to Iow
