Cornelius was appointed the executor of his father Christian Diehl's will. During the War of 1812, Lt. Cornelius Dale was in the 4th Co., 89th Regiment, 1st Brigade and 11th Division of the Pennsylvania Militia from Center County. In 1813 he became a Tavern Keeper. In 1844, Cornelius loaded his moneybags on his saddle and rode horseback to White Pigeon, St. Joseph County, Michigan. His family followed by covered wagon.
