Joseph Shackleford, 79, 1712 N Delphos St, died at 11:45pm Sunday at the St. Joseph Hospital. He had been ill for a year.

He was born in Tipton County May 31, 1875, the son of Jospeh and Nancy (Shields) Shackleford and was a retured carpenture. He was a member of the Babtist Church.

Surviving are the widow, Estella; three children, Mrs. Della Pease of South Bend, Mrs. Edith Pettress (should be Petros) and Norman Shackelford (this is the spelling used in the obituary)of Peoria, IL; four stepchildren, Mrs. Mary McKibben and Leo Coy of Kokomo; Harry Coy of Tipton and Mrs. Lester Culp of South Bend. There are 27 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was the last survivor of a family of 12.

Funeral services will be held at 10am Wednesday at the Peacock Funeral Home with the Rev. Roland Green of the Free Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4pm Tuesday.

NOTE: On the marriage liscense for Joseph M. Shackelford and Mary Ellen Swisher, the last name is spelled Shackleford which may explain why Mary's headstone is spelled with the "LE". Estella's, Joseph's second wife, the headstone is spelled with the "EL". I do have a copy of the marriage liscense if anyone would like a copy.
