Roy N. Jenkins

Roy Neil Jenkins, son of Joseph Reuben and Louisa Jane Harris Jenkins, was born April 10, 1892 in Republic County, Kansas, four and one-half miles southeast of chester, and departed this life Dec. 5, 1972 at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 25 days.

He attended the Excelsior School and grew to manhood on the family farm. On April 23, 1913, he was united in marriage with Rena E. Carpenter. This home was blessed with five children. They made their home on farms in the Chester community until 1934 when they moved into Chester. They lived here and he worked mostly as a painter until Rena's death.

In November 1954 he came to Belleville and continued to work as a painter as long as health permitted.

On Nov. 25, 1954, he was united in marriage to Nellie E. Bowen. They have lived in their present home since that time. Besides painting, he and Nellie enjoyed helping at Sims Greenhouse when they were needed. Following a heart attack, he gradually decreased the amount of work he could do until this past year he understood he could not work anymore.

Roy was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Rena; two brothers, Rancis and Charles; one sister, mabel Bise; and three infant children. Left to mourn his departure are his wife, Nellie; two daughers, Opal Faye Eisenman of Belleville and Vivian Cloyd of Riverside, Ca.; four sisters, Mrs. Bertie Randels of Ft. Morgan, Colo., Mrs. Lizzie Bentz of Fairbury, Mrs. Lee George of Belleville and Mrs. J.R. Dettman of Narka; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 9, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Memorial Chapel in Belleville, conducted by the Reverends Harry Blackburn and John Frint. Music and singing were furnished by Rev. and Mrs. Blackburn. Casket bearers were Eldon Saylor, Frank Larkins, Lawrence Eickman, John Peterka, Clarence Palmer, George Barleen.
