Charles William Baker, 84, Neodesha, Kansas, died Thursday, November 19, 2009, at Fredonia Regional Hospital, Fredonia, Kansas.

He was born Sept. 9, 1925, to Chester Sr. and Alta (Beebee) Baker in Conway Springs.

He was a lifelong farmer and cattleman. He worked 24 years for the Alfalfa Mill in Benedict and Fredonia.

On Dec. 8, 1944, he married Merle Lewis; they divorced. On June 30, 1977, he married Geneva R. Usher Goode. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Martha Ann Davis, Springfield, Mo., and Phyllis Starbuck, Benedict; a brother, John Baker, Mayfield; two sisters, Viola Griffin, Newton, and Hazel Wehlage, Chanute; four grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Edith Rice, Stella Callaway and Ruby Stam; three brothers, Ralph, Delbert and Chester Baker Jr.; and a grandson.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Countryside Funeral Home in Fredonia with burial to follow at High Prairie Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Countryside Funeral Home, Fredonia.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Wilson County Old Iron Club in care of the funeral home.
