Edith Rice, 93, Savonburg, Kansas, died Thursday, October 29, 2009, at Labette County Health Center in Parsons, Kansas.
Edith was born in Argonia, Kansas, on February 1, 1916, the daughter of Chester and Alta (Beebe) Baker.
She was the only one of ten children to graduate high school when she graduated from Conway Springs High School in 1938.
Edith was united in marriage to Dale C. Rice on December 23, 1936 in Conway Springs, Kansas. He preceded her in death in April 1996.
She was a homemaker.
Edith was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Stark, EHU, Ladies Aid Society, and she delivered Meals on Wheels in Savonburg.
She also participated in Relay for Life, where she was the oldest walker in 2003.
Edith is survived by two daughters, Linda Elder and husband Don, of Chanute, KS, and Nancy Richwine and husband Don, of Stark, KS; 5 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Wehlage of Chanute, KS, and Viola Griffin of North Newton, KS; and two brothers, Charles Baker of Neodesha, KS, and John Baker of Mayfield, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dale; an infant son, Kyle Truman Rice; brothers, Delbert Baker, Chester Baker Jr., Ralph Baker, and a stillborn brother; sisters, Stella Calloway, Ruby Stam, and Gracie Baker.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at the Leanna Cemetery, east of Chanute on Lyon Road.
Memorials in her name may be made to Stark United Methodist Kitchen Building Fund and may be left with the funeral home.
Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
