Alice was the daughter of Simon Hooper, a veteran of the Mexican and Civil War, and Mary Ann Short. Alice married James Henry Elledge in 1880 in Fremont County, Iowa. James was the son of James and Lovina Elledge.

After they were married they moved to Mapleton in Monona County, Iowa. During that time Maude and Wallace were born.

By 1896 they had returned to Fremont County and had their third child, Deloss Clay Elledge. Alice died at the age of 41 in Fremont County.

After her death, James and the children moved to Kansas. James died in Osage County, Kansas in 1936.
