Louis' obituary (Herald Democrat, Sherman TX, Aug 3, 2009) included a picture of him with his Fiddle. Louis was a well known Fiddler and won the title of World Champion in Crockett, TX, seven times as well as hundreds of other Fiddle contests. He was inducted into the Texas Fiddlers Hall of Fame in 1990 and an original founding member of the Texas Old Time Fiddler's Association.

Louis was son of Jess & Amy Franklin. He graduated from Bells High School in 1942 and married Louise Lorraine Genthe on 21 Feb 1942. They were married for 67 years when she died. Their children are Linda Carol, Donna, Debbie, Larry and Kenneth.

He entered the US Army on 4 Apr 1945 and was honorably discharged on 30 Oct 1946 after serving in Japan. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Whitewright TX.
