"Veen" was the second of the three sons of Jeremiah and Emily Marana (Parker) Campbell, named for his maternal Uncle Sylvenus Parker who had died seven years prior to his birth. He married Fanny Townsend at Dickersonville Church in Lewiston on 15 January 1873. His younger brother Emmett would later marry Fanny's sister Kittie. Sylvenus and Fanny had six children and farmed the Townsend farm at Dickersonville.
