Obituary from the Kerrville Mountain Sun, Dec. 4, 1930:

""Death Claims Isaiah Blanks, Former Slave

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for Isaiah Blanks,79, long-time negro resident of the city who died Friday. The venerable "'darkey" for about 35 years was a household servant of the late Captain Charles Schreiner and was noted for his ability to speak German as well as English.
At the age of 11, Blanks was brought as a slave from Tallahassee, Florida, by the Ganhal family, and reached the Hill Country during the Civil War. His master settled in the present community of Center Point, then known as Ganhal Station, and it was there Blanks learned to speak German. Before coming to Kerrville, Blanks worked at Cypress shingle making. He had seen the communities along the Guadalupe River in the hills transformed from rought frontier outposts and shingle camps to modern towns.
Floral tributes from the white people of the city bare witness to the esteem in which Blanks was held. The life he had lived made him an outstanding character among his own people, and respected by business men and merchants. His long, faithful service in the home of the late Captain Charles Schreiner made him widely known.
The Reverend Tylor, pastor of the Mount Olive Baptist Church, and Rev. A.C. Russell of the African Methodist Church conducted the services.
Among the survivors are 10 children, 48 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Burial was at Mount Tivy Cemetery. Many of the colored citizens attended."
