Sam was killed while helping a neighbor at threshing time. He was working up in the mow and, it is believed, he suffered a heart attack, slipped and fell as he was crossing the beam in the barn to come down for the noon meal. He was 40 years and 12 days old and left his wife, Sylvia Amelia Yoder and three small children, Rena, Carl and Lee, an aged father, three brothers and four sisters.
