Charles was the son of Alfred Belfield and Maria Johnson. The family came to Rush County, Kansas in 1871. On a return trip to Iowa the next year Charles met and married Ella Shaw on Feb. 26, 1878 and then returned to Kansas. After raising their children, Charles and Ella left for Oregon in 1913. Charles passed away in 1927 and was buried in North Powder Cemetery. Ella returned to Kansas in 1932 to live with daughter Emma in Salina, Kansas. Ella then met and married Bill Watkins till she died on March 25 or 28, 1937. She was buried in Burton Cemetery. (Info. per a direct descendant of Charles and Ella Belfield.)

The 1900 census, Alta Twp., Harvey Co., Kansas, shows that Charlie M. Belfield, age 43, and wife Ella, age 36, had been married for 22 years, and had 10 children, 9 living.
