SIDNEY - Carroll W. Elkins, 52, died early Saturday Nov. 14, 2009, after a two-year battle with lung and brain cancer. He was born in Waterville on April 18, 1957, the son of Freeman and the late Audry (Vigue) Elkins. Carroll graduated from Messalonskee High School in Oakland. Shortly after graduation, he joined the military, traveling to many different bases both stateside and in Europe. After returning to Maine, he spent many years in business management and retail.
He was predeceased by his son Jonathan Elkins, who he missed deeply; his mother Audrey Elkins, and his father-in-law, Lawrence (Larry) Adams. Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Grace Elkins, daughter Carolyn Janosco and husband Kevin of Fairfield; daughter-in-law Elizabeth Elkins-Farmer and husband Jimmy of Oakland; the joy of his life, five fantastic grandchildren: Tyler Elkins, Caitlin Elkins, Juli-Ann Farmer, Chelsea Elkins and Jaydon Elkins.
Carroll was also survived by his father, Freeman Elkins and wife Bev of Clinton, mother-in-law, Avis Adams of Oakland, brother Roland Elkins of Oakland, sisters Judy Theibeau and husband Julius of Oakland, Beatrice Varney and husband Earl of Winslow, Myra Cook and husband Frank of Oakland, and Penny Green and husband Bill of Winslow, many special nieces and nephews who he loved very much.
Burial will be at the Lewis Cemetery in Oakland. (Kennebec Journal 11/16/2009)
