According to A History of Tours, Texas by Sister Mary Elizabeth Jupe, she was the wife of Frank Bettge.

Frank Bettge married and fathered four children in Kingsville, Texas by his first wife: Arnold, Frank Jr, Sophie and Lizzie. When his first wife died, he married Mary Merswik Schorn who had lost her husband and had three children of her own: Louise, Hattie and Adolph.

Frank purchased land in the Tours area from Father Preker, but before the family could move, Frank died. Frank Bettge died in 1920 and is buried in Kingsville, Texas. In 1921 Mary took her three children from her first marriage and Jack and Edmund, her two children from her marriage to Frank, and moved to Tours.

Mary Bettge became a cook and housekeeper for Rev. Henry Schroeder in Tours. When she retired she lived with her daughters until her death on June 30, 1959, at the age of 86.

Mrs. Bettge, 86, Tours Pioneer, Dies Tuesday

Mrs. Mary Bettge, 86, died in a Waco hospital at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 30. She was a native of Poland, but came to Texas when she was two years old. She was reared in Killeen, but spent most of her life in Leroy.

Funeral services were held Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Martin Church in Tours, Rev. J.T. Geiser officiated. Burial was in St. Martin Cemetery.

Survivors are these children: Mrs. Hattie Straten of Leroy, Adolph Schorn of Dickinson, Edmund Bettge of Leroy, Jack Bettge of Waco, Frank Bettge of Corpus Christi, Mrs. Sophie Bohot of California, and Mrs. Louise Frazier of San Antonio; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Mierzwich of Killeen and Joe Albina Heuss and Mrs. Victoria Shafer, both of Killeen.
