Edmund Bettge, age 91 of West, formerly of Leroy, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 30, 1996 in West Rest Haven.

Rosary was recited at 10 a.m. November 2 in St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Tours. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:15 a.m. November 2 in St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Tours with Rev. Isidore Rozycki as celebrant. Burial followed at St. Martin’s Cemetery in Tours.

Mr. Bettge was born October 16, 1905 in Redwood, Texas and had moved to Leroy at an early age. He was a retired carpenter and farmer and had been employed as a foreman for R. R. Jones Construction Company for a number of years. He was a member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church of Tours.

He married Willie Mae Schroeder, November 16, 1926 at Tours. She preceded him in death July 11, 1992. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Francis Bettge on June 29, 1991 and Bobby Bettge on January 26, 1995, and also a son-in-law, Jack Haller, May 13, 1996.

Survivors include Billy Bettge of Leroy, Edmund J. Bettge, Jr. of Killeen, Kenneth Bettge and Vernon Bettge both of Arlington; three daughters, Margie Haller of Arlington, Mary D. Lauth of Bowie, Maryland and Doris A. Grones of Bellmead; 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers were Billy Bettge, Jr., Dale Bettge, Ray Bettge, Timmy Bettge, Kevin Grones and Glynn Grones.

Kotch Funeral Home of West was in charge of arrangements.
