Mr. Breitenbach was born Feb. 20, 1931, in Union, the son of the late Benjamin J. Breitenbach and wife Anna Mary, nee Gerdes.
He received his education at St. John's Gildehaus, Villa Ridge.
Mr. Breitenbach served his country in the U.S. Army from April 1952 until April 1954.
He was united in marriage to Henrietta Lakebrink in 1954 at Immaculate Conception Church, Union, and they made their home in Union.
Mr. Breitenbach had been a heavy equipment operator and retired from Operators Local 513 in 1987. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Union, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 297 and the V.F.W.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Danielle Ahart; two brothers, Al Breitenbach and Clarence Breitenbach; and one sister, Leona Hanneken.
Mr. Breitenbach is survived by his wife, Henrietta Breitenbach, Union; two sons, Richard Breitenbach and wife Jane, Washington, and Ron Breitenbach, Virginia Beach, Va.; two daughters, Debbie Ahart, Union, and Darla Unerstall and husband Greg, Washington; five grandchildren, Ben and Alicia Breitenbach, Shelby Ahart, Emily Mills and husband Jason and Travis Unerstall; one great-granddaughter, Abigail Mills; other relatives and many friends.
A funeral Mass was held Thursday, Nov. 5, at Immaculate Conception Church, Union, with the Rev. Peter Blake officiating.
Interment was in Midlawn Cemetery, Union.
Memorials to the County Seat Senior Center Foundation, Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital or Masses are preferred.
The family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
