Ben J. Breitenbach was born at Moselle, Mo., Aug. 29, 1889, the son of the late John Breitenbach and his wife, Anna nee Finder, and died at his home on Washington rural route 2 Tuesday eveing, Sept. 10, 1963 after a lingering illnes. He was 74 years and 11 days of age.
He received his schooling at St. Mary's school and grew to young manhood in this community.
On May 6, 1914, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Gerdes at St. John's Gildehaus church by Father Kroger. The couple made their home on a farm in the Gildehaus community. Six children were born to this marriage.
Mr. Breitenbach was a member of the Poor Souls Society and the Married Mens Sodality.
In addition to his parents he was preceeded in death by two infant daughters, three sisters, Mrs. Mary Espowe, Mrs. Bernadine Bolte and Mrs. Catherine Hanneken, and one brother, Fred Breitenbach.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Anna Breitenbach, one daughter, Mrs. Leona Hanneken of Port Hudson, three sons Aloys and Clarence of Washington, and Raymond Breitenbach of Union, one son-in-law, Elmer Hanneken, three daughters-in-law, Marge, wife of Aloys, Lucy Ann, wife of Clarence, and Henrrietta, wife of Raymond, fourteen grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, one sister, Mrs. Henry Unnerstall of Villa Ridge, two brothers, John and Edward Breitenbach both of Pacific, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and other relatives and freinds.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 13, 1963 from the Oltmann Funeral home in Union at 8:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass from St. John's Gildehaus church at 9 a.m. by Father Unterrainer and Msgr. George J. Hildner, V.F. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
