Shown in the photos are Dave Peck and Keith Willis who straightened Susan's stone 4/22/2010. She lived 74 years and spent her last years with daughter and son-in-law James and Sarah Van Patten Bevis. She has space #6 in the plot map on the right. Her husband Simon Bartlett Van Patten followed two of his sons, Abram and Harmon, to Illinois. Follow the links to learn of their burials there.
Susan and her husband Simon Bartlett VP apparently separated about 1770. He went to live with son Abram in Malta, Ill and she lived with her daughter and son-in-law Sarah Van Patten and James Bevis in Niskayuna, NY. They are all buried in Vale cemetery except for Simon in Section I-2, #3. Simon is in the Malta Cemetery in Illinois. Simon and Susan were married Oct. 19, 1825 according to the Oct 26, 1825 Schenectady Cabinet newspaper. Reverend Jeremiah Searle of Rotterdam officiated. In an article written by her son Harmon in Illinois, he said his parents were not at all related. However it turns out they were second cousins 1X removed. At the time of their marriage they were both from Glenville, NY.
