Dale Edwin Sauer,83, of Delta died July 27, 2002, at Sigourney Care Center, Sigourney.

He was born Oct. 4, 1918, in Hayesville to Charles and Minnie Ritter Sauer. He married Marie Helen Ross Sept. 6, 1941, in Lancaster, Mo.

He was raised in the Hayesville area and attended country school. He spent a short time with the CCC, worked for area farmers, was a truck driver for a local poultry company and delivered livestock to Chicago. He served in the U.S. Army during World War ll as a truck driver and mechanic with a field artillery unit. He had farmed west of Thornburg, Delta and Keokuk County. He had been employed by a steel mill in Chicago. He retired from farming in 1972 and drove the SIEDA bus from Sigourney. He was a member of the Delta Methodist Church, Farm Bureau, and the Sigourney VFW.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Leslie Sauer of Sigourney, Dave Sauer of What Cheer and Larry Sauer of Warrior, Ala.; two daughters, Marjorie Maule of What Cheer and Peggy Rinderknecht of What Cheer; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Andrew, Doyle and Skeets; four sisters, Lena Bitner, Lucille Harkins, Peaggy Darnell and Ruth Snakenburg; one grandson; and a brother; Leslie, and a sister, Lottie, who died in infancy.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Harden Funeral Chapel, What Cheer, with the Rev. Vince Homan officiating. Interment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery south of Delta with military honors by the Sigourney VFW.
Visitation will begin after 10 a.m. today in the funeral home with the family present froom 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Delta Rescue Unit or the Delta United Methodist Church.
