Special to the Commercial Gazette
Jackson OH, March 9 - Conductor Tom Jones, who died at Portsmouth, was buried here today. Fully fifteen hundred people were at the depot awaiting the coming of the train. The Knights Templar from Portsmouth and this place to the number of fifty, headed by the Jackson Band preceded the body to his last resting place. Sorrow was manifest among the people, for Mr Jones was very popular, having been born and raised in this county.
JO Mupeth - Special to the Gazette - Portsmouth, OH; March 8 - During the funeral services of the late Conductor Tom Jones, at the church, JO Muppin, one of the attending Knights templar, dropped dead and was carried home a corpse. Our company has not been so shocked for a long time. Mr. Martin was a general favorite having been born and brought up in Portsmouth. He was prominent in society and business circles, and was widely known among river and railroad men and our faithful wharfboat and transfer agent. Coupling this last one to the sadness felt on account of the death of Tom Jones will make this day long to be remembered in Portsmouth.
