Albert Deppe, 88, of rural Jasper County died Wednesday, Aug. 11, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Ron Arends, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Tama, officiating. Burial will be at Rock Creek Cemetery in rural Jasper County.
Memorials will be accepted to the American Heart Association.

The son of Herman and Gladys (Shill) Deppe, he was born Dec. 30, 1915, in Pine River, Minn. He was raised on a farm in Jasper County and was a 1932 graduate of Grinnell High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. On Jan. 26, 1947, he married Virginia Kann in Grinnell. The couple farmed in Jasper County. He was employed as a road grader for Jasper County for 43 years and retired in 1977. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kellogg, Farm Bureau, Victor Grange in Jasper County and the Kellogg American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Laird and Ron, both of Grinnell, Charles of Las Vegas and Gerald of Banderas, Texas; two daugthers, Linda Lester of Grinnell and Pat Skelton of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers, Gerald and Ernest, both of Grinnell; two sisters, Bernice Winchell and Maxine Wilson, both of Grinnell; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
