Sylvia, eldest daughter of James and Adaline Brush was born Oct. 7, 1873 and died March 11, 1925, aged 52 years, 5 months and 4 days. She was married to Steve Lewis Jan. 10, 1911. She leaves a husband, four sisters and two brothers, and friends unnumbered.

In the early part of life previous to her marriage, she lived at Columbus, Ohio, a number of years later, coming to Johnstown her home town where she followed the art of dress-making and has since resided here.

Some of her true to life characteristics are, first her home where she strived so diligently to bring warmth and happiness. Being of an ambitious nature, she went beyond her limited strength to do good for others, idleness being an unknown word to her. She yearned not for wealth and luxury, she cared not for the dizzy whirl of society and excitement, living from childhood a quiet life. Having no children of her very own, nieces and nephews alike were offered her love and protection as from a mother. Being of a Christ-like nature she sacrificed and willingly divided her last crumbs with her loved ones.

Five years ago she suffered a severe illness only partially regaining her former strength and in the past year she rapidly declined in health and was advised by her home physician to be taken to Grant Hospital where an examination revealed gallstones and on March 7th an operation was performed and many complications taking place after, rallying only for a day or two to recognize her husband and four sisters, who patiently waited at her bed-side to grasp the only spark of life that still remained. Physicians and nurses alike done all that could be done to prolong life, but she slowly ebbed away and Jesus beckoned her come and she peacefully and calmly entered in.
