James Oscar, son of Loyd and Elizabeth Nidy Brush, was born Oct. 28, 1850 and died March 5, 1925 at the home of his daughter, Margaret Farnham at Hartford, Ohio, aged 75 years, 4 months and 8 days.

He was the youngest son of a family of twelve children. All have passed beyond but an aged brother, Daniel. He was married to Rachel Adeline Trippier, Dec. 24, 1872. This union was blessed with nine children, Sylvia Lewis, Walter Brush, Libbie Moran, Grace Tharp, Dana Brush, Sarah Blamer and Margaret Farnham, two children dying in infancy, eleven grandchildren, four great grand children. He was bereaved of his most devoted companion three years ago this January. He has made his home with his eldest daughters, Sylvia, visiting each of his other children from time to time whenever he so desired.

With all these combined homes they never filled the vacancy of his own that his loving wife made for him, and he rapidly declined in health, until that dreaded Bright's disease ended his earthly suffering which he made such a strong attempt to suppress. He realized his condition a few hours before the end came and remarked he was ready for his suffering to end but he hated so badly to leave his children. Every effort was made to prolong life, but was in vain, God knew best. He spent his entire life in this immediate vicinity.

It can truthfully be said James Brush has been an honest, hard toiling upright man, never shirking from duty whereever placed by his fellow men. In his early days he was especially fond of working in the timber, which seemed to cling to him up to his last illness and also was never happier than when in the presence of little children.

A sad event of this occasion was that the eldest daughter, Sylvia was lying seriously ill at Grant Hospital unable to be informed of her father's death.

He was a member of the Odd Fellow lodge thirty-one years.
