Born Sunday, July 6, 1919 in Atlanta, he was the son of the late William T. "Bill" Collins and the late Pinola Paralee Barton Collins.
He was predeceased by five brothers, Ed, Roy, Luther, Thomas, and an infant brother; and six sisters, Velma, Lucy, Mae, Edna, Annie, and Della.
Mr. Collins was a member of Sardis Baptist Church and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an avid outdoorsman who dearly loved hunting, fishing, and trapping. A gifted farmer, he raised a big garden every year for as long as he was able.
Surviving are son, John Collins of Atlanta; daughter, Rhonda Foster and husband Gary of Atlanta; six grandchildren, Emily, Zachary, and Haley Collins of Atlanta, Jennfer Tarver and husband Jason of Pineville, Rebecca Foster of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Luke Foster of Atlanta; two great-grandchildren, Allison and Audrey Tarver of Pineville.
A Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2009 at Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield with the Rev. Danny Keyes officiating. Interment will be in Sardis Cemetery, Atlanta.
Thomas Collins, Paul Collins, Craig Collins, Jerry Collins, Fil Jones, and Jim Brown will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Luke Foster and Zachary Collins
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2009, and from 8 a.m. until service time on Monday at Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield.
